Unveiling of the Plague for the Late Talaiasi Labalaba.

It was an emotional moment for many Fijians as the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry unveiled the statue commemorating Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba.
The Duke of Sussex at the unveil for the late Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba at the Nadi International Airport.
Also present at the unveiling was His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote, the Honourable Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the son of the late Mr. Talaiasi Labalaba – Mr. Isaia Dere Labalaba who was involved in the Battle of Mirbat on July 19th 1972 – the late Labalaba fired a 25 pounder single handedly in spite of being seriously wounded against attacking guerrilla forces. The Special Air Service (SAS) Sergeant was shot dead at the age of 30. The occasion was also commemorated with an special investiture ceremony where His Excellency presented the President’s War Cross to Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba’s son, Mr. Isaia Labalaba at the Nadi International Airport.
