Mr. Sanaka Samarasinha the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for the Republic of Fiji presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Major-General (Ret'd) Jioji Konusi Konrote at Borron House on Tuesday, 25th September 2018. Prior to joining the Fiji Office, Mr. Samarasinha served in Minsk for five and a half years, and in various offices of the UN and UNDP, in particular, as Director Global Centre for Public Service Excellence in Singapore; Senior Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Iran; Officer in Charge, Maldives; Director Kosovo and Officer in Charge of UNDP Samoa, Niue, Tokelau and the Cook Islands. Mr. Samarasinha was also Deputy Resident Representative in Myanmar and Deputy Country Director, Sri Lanka. Prior to that he served in Bangkok as the Regional Rule of Law Advisor covering 26 countries in Asia and the Pacific. Before joining the UN, Mr. Samarasinha worked in the legal profession and in journalism, with government, civil society and private sector entities in several countries including the USA, South Africa and India. Mr. Samarasinha is married with three daughters. He is from Sri Lanka.
