His Excellency Launches- 'Childhood Cancer Awareness Month'

His Excellency Major-General (Ret'd) Jioji Konrote launched the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on Friday, 20th July at Tanoa Plaza, Suva.
His Excellency Major-General (Ret'd) Jioji Konusi Konrote with the officials and children of WOWS Kids.
The launch marks the month - long campaign on the awareness of the early signs of childhood cancer during the month of August. August was established as the child cancer awareness month in Fiji in 2017 by the Minister of Health and Medical Services Honourable Ms. Rosie Akbar.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is symbolised by a gold ribbon, worn to commemorate the event. This is an annual international awareness month to raise support, funding and awareness of childhood cancers and the impact for sufferers and families of sufferers of childhood cancer.
His Excellency further shared with those present in his address:
“Fiji diagnoses 20 to 30 new cases of childhood cancer each year.”
“Awareness should be created, so that it can be diagnosed and treated early.”
“The media plays a critical role in disseminating factual information and spread awareness through radio talkback shows, newspapers, television, magazines, and social media platforms.”
“It is crucial that parents and guardians recognise early warning signs to ensure timely diagnosis, timely referrals, and proper treatment protocols.”
