His Excellency attends the National Day of France.

His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote attended the National Day of France - “Bastille Day” which was held in Suva on the evening of Saturday, 14th July.

Prime Minister Honourable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, French Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Sujiro Seam and His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote during the Bastille Day Celebration.

Bastille Day celebrations was celebrated at the French Ambassador’s residence, also in attendance were the  Honourable Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Cabinet Ministers and members of the Diplomatic Corp. Speaking at the event, French Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Sujiro Seam commended the diplomatic relations between Fiji and France over the years. Ambassador Seam commended Fiji’s lead role in its fight against climate change in the Pacific and the Prime Minister’s role as COP23 President. The French national holiday of Bastille Day is celebrated each year on July 14 with fireworks and a large military parade for some, but for most, it still marks the anniversary of the storming of a grand fortress that was infamous for holding political prisoners, during the first moments of the French Revolution in Paris in 1789.
