His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret'd) Jioji Konusi Konrote bestowed the Member of the Order of Fiji award to Mr. Andrew Sutherland Thomson at a Special Investiture ceremony on Thursday, 02nd March at Borron House.
His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote, Madam First Lady Sarote Konrote with Mr. Andrew Thomson, Mrs. Claireabell Henry Thomson and family and friends.
Mr. Thomson was nominated in 2016 for the Member of the Order of Fiji medal, however due to work commitments he was unable to avail himself for the initial ceremony in 2016. The Fiji Honours and Awards Act of 1995 recognise individuals who have and continue to contribute to Fiji’s development as a nation, in any field or industry, and in any capacity. His Excellency the President in his statement said, “Since becoming Fiji’s Head of State, I have been, and will continue to promote a culture of appreciation. I believe that the culture of appreciation will further inspire a sense of national unity, patriotism, and productive citizenry among our fellow Fijians, who are and have been working towards a common goal of nation building at the local and international levels. It is an opportunity for acts of selflessness to be recognised.” Mr. Thomson was awarded for his contribution to Fiji’s tourism development as the then Chief Executive Officer of the Denarau Island project; and his involvement in leadership roles with the Nadroga and Nadi Rugby Unions, as well as with Fiji Rugby in both the 7s and 15s codes.
