The President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency, Major- General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote with the National Women’s Rugby League team.
As the Patron of the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL), His Excellency deemed the launch as a special occasion saying;” … we are creating history in Fiji’s sporting legacy, with another ‘feather in our cap’ as a proud sporting nation.”
The launch marks a momentous milestone in FNRL’s history and achievements unveiling the Fiji Bulikula Brand.
Bulikula is an i-taukei word used to describe a rare and special type of golden cowrie shell. The shells are known to be reserved and worn only by chiefs and recognised as a traditional sign of chiefly status. The cowrie possesses a porcelain-like shine that resembles a dazzling uniqueness of beauty. President Konrote added, “…relevant comparison on to our women”
The brand poses a sentimental meaning to FNRL as a special tribute to the late Chairman Mr. Peni Musunamasi who had been the pioneer for the code and played a pivotal role in the inclusivity of women in the sport.
