Non-Resident Ambassador of Finland to Fiji Presents Credentials.

His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote received the credentials of the non-resident Ambassador of Finland to Fiji, His Excellency Lars Erik Backstrom on Thursday, 15th March at Borron House.

Ambassador Backstrom presented his credentials today after inspecting a guard of honour by Officers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The envoy had served as Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand since 2016 after which he was accredited to Solomon Islands, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu in 2017. He also served as Ambassador to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, People's Republic of China and Mongolia. Ambassador Backstrom began his career Foreign Service as an attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Helsinki, Finland in 1982. He completed his Master of Polotical Science, Abo Akademi in Finland and had authored a book titled ' The Face Catastrophe- Seven Years in Serving in the Field of Humanitarian Assistance' which was published in 2005. Ambassador Backstrom, who had been recognised in the Guinness Book of Records for having visited all independent countries in the world before turning 40, first came to Fiji in 1976. The new Non- Resident Ambassador in based in Canberra, Australia.
