His Excellency, Major- General (Ret'd) Jioji Konusi Konrote attended the 47th National Day of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held at the Grand Pacific Hotel on Monday 3 December 2018.

His Excellency Major-General (Ret'd) Jioji Konusi Konrote with the Non- Resident Ambassador of UAE to Fiji, His Excellency Saleh Ahmed Alsuwaidi at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva.

Also in attendance were Cabinet Minsters, senior Government officials and members of the Diplomatic corp. The UAE became independent on 02nd December 1971; therefore the say is signified across the globe as the anniversary of independence.

Non-Resident Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates to Fiji, His Excellency Saleh Ahmed Alsuwaidi addressed those present at the celebrations and commended the long-standing diplomatic relations shared between the UAE and the Fiji.

On behalf of the Fijian Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chief of Protocol, Mr. Jonetani Tagivetaua shared the eight [8] years after the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Fiji and UAE, Fiji greatly valued the relationship and deeply appreciated the important role that UAE continues to play in Fiji and  the Pacific region. 

Fiji and UAE has further strengthened relations through the finalisation of a number of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Association. A recent MOU with the UAE Red Crescent Society was in support  of the Government's  Adopt a School Program signed last month in Fiji.
