His Excellency Attends the 85th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

The President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote attended the celebration of the 85th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan in Tamavua on Friday, 14th December 2018.
His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote and the First Lady Madam Sarote Konrote with His Excellency Masahiro Omura and Mrs. Omura at the celebration of the 85th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at the Ambassador’s residence in Tamavua, Suva.
Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Masahiro Omura while officiating at the event commended the strengthened relationship between Fiji and Japan over the years. “In May this year, the 8th Pacific Islands Leaders meeting, PALM8 was held in Japan. This meeting was an important occasion to deepen our bilateral relations. Our Embassy, together with Fijian counterparts is earnestly following the summit meeting.” His Excellency Omura shared a brief history of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan and the related ceremonies to the abdication and the enthronement next year. His Excellency Omura highlighted that from July 2018; direct flights between Nadi and Narita will resume and is hoping for more people exchanges between the two countries. Fiji and Japan share a long-standing bilateral relationship in the areas of technical cooperation through JICA, parliaments support program and government scholarships offered to students in Fiji to study in Japan. Ambassador’s commendation awards were presented to Professor Jito Vanualailai (Director Research, Professor Applied Mathematics of USP) and Dr. Joeli Veitayaki (Associate Professor School of Marine Studies, USP).
