OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT RETURNS BORRON HOUSE TO MINISTRY OF ECONOMY

The President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote with the Staff of the Office of the President today commemorated and formally handed back Borron House to the care and custody of the Construction and Implementation Unit (CIU) of the Ministry of Economy. The ceremony was conducted at the State House Conservatory.

The handover date is special because on the 11th July, 2017 Borron House was blessed and dedicated with a house warming ceremony and the Office of the President officially acquired the property to be the State House until exactly three (3) years later it is handing Borron House back to the Construction and Implementation Unit (CIU).

It was at Borron House that many dignified guests were hosted  - Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Crown Prince of Norway – His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, the President of The Republic of Estonia - Her Excellency Kersti Kaljulaid, the Honourable Prime Minister of Samoa – Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi,  The -United Nations Secretary General –Mr Antonio Guterres, the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand - Right Honourable Winston Peters and the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury - Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby to name a few.

His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote in his remarks to those converged at the State House Conservatory for the handover stated that Borron House is a National Heritage Property and  we as a nation need to preserve its integrity and sanctity.

In attendance at the handover ceremony were the Head of the Construction and Implementation Unit (CIU), Mr. Shah. I. Mohammed and his team, with former and present caretakers of Borron House.
